Lately my love for mid century modern furniture has stepped up a notch and I've been trying to find out what triggered my higher than normal levels of Mid Cent Lust. Eventually I came back to this delightful living space. Since I pinned it to my Pinterest account a few weeks ago I've had it on the mind: the mustard yellow sofa, art wall, mid century pieces and lashings of natural light have me weak at the knees every time. What do you like about this space?

Home Tour: Jonathan Lo's Southern California Home
Before we go anywhere, how stinkin' cute is Jon's dog, Pepe?! OK, back to interiors, and namely the interior of Jonathan Lo, the founder and principle and creative director of J3 Productions, a multidisciplinary design studio and consultancy that services the lifestyle, fashion, decor and retail sectors. Phew! A busy chap for sure, but not too busy to curate a welcoming home - one that details a fusion of retro hues and flea market finds. Of course the zingy turquoise and yellow shades caught my eye, but it's the inviting, vibrant and relaxed vibe that Jon has created which really sells the space. Colour blocking throughout the open-plan home serves to zone the space, from a bright orange reading nook to a flavescent stripe signifying the dining area. Anyhow, dive on in and check out the space for yourself - and be sure to keep an eye out for the details, including the sweet papier mache owl and dipped dining chair.

You know what, folks? I simply love yellow! This is no surprise given my penchant for bold brights, but this last week or so I've been hooked on this preppy hue; my magpie-like eye drawn to it left, right and centre. So, I headed over to the Rue Magazine blog with some handsome chaps and sweet-like-buttercup interiors in toe, and found myself a little Yellow Therapy. Check it out, here.

Happy Weekend
Whatever your plans this weekend, friends, let's try squeeze in a little time for cocktails, shall we? Let's see, how would eight o'clock tonight suit? Perfect, we'll meet by the glorious yellow radiator in the drawing room. All I need to do now is find a fabulous outfit!

Colour Cocktail: Cerulean Blue and Candy Yellow
Picture the scene: sunlight is pouring through your balcony doors, the chiffon curtains are billowing in the gentle breeze and the roll of cerulean blue waves sound through your apartment with comforting regularity. The brilliant white walls of your sea-view living room are like a prism of perfection to the rays of sunshine that beat down with warm abandon. Dancing around the room your loyal rays of sunshine ache for a colourful partner to accompany them during the long summer days. All they ask in return for their uplifting warmth is a splash of yellow stripes, or a familiar throw in cerulean blue to lift their spirits and complete the perfect summertime scheme.

Love this shuffle table.
I'd like to make this New Year's Garland.
Champagne and fresh blooms in the mail? Yes, please!
A great little tutorial on lining envelopes with fabric.
This book launch in a domestic-like setting made entirely of cardboard is super.

Happy Weekend
This weekend I'm hoping to do some writing, catch up with old friends who are in town and treat myself to a big bag of M&Ms after being featured on Apartment Therapy twice in one week. The AT team kindly wrote about my posts on Graham and Jo's London home and Kate Spade's London pop-up store tour. I hope you have a bright, happy and all-round wonderful weekend, friends!

Yellow Kitchen With A Rustic Twist
Goodness me, I think this has to be the happiest kitchen I've ever seen. I'm inspired by the bold yet delicate approach to decorating this small, almost nook-sized eating space. Vibrant yellow walls are anchored by old apple boxes, a modernist flap clock and an utterly adorable utensils shelf. Whilst I'm not normally fond of typography being used to spell out obvious words such as 'eat' and 'sleep' in seems to add nothing but charm to this happy-go-lucky kitchen. Notice how all it takes is a vintage box and the battered wooden table to bring a touch of rustic flavour to the space. So, if you're looking for around meal times, friends, you'll know where to find me!

Home Tour: Glossy Brights
If I was going to host a tea party (hey, tea can be cool!) then you can bet your bottom dollar I'd host it in this delightful home. Photographed by Stellan Herner this vibrant home has Bright.Bazaar style stamped all over it. In the bedroom a glossy red chest offsets smooth turquoise accents, whilst black base shades help to turn an art wall into a striking statement in the dining area. There are bright, preppy hues aplenty but notice how red hues are used throughout to ensure that the different spaces remain connected. Clever use of patterned textiles serve to elongate a narrow corridor, whilst sharp lines on the wardrobe give the illusion of higher ceilings. However, for Mr.B, the real star is the kitchen decor. It holds a wonderful air of whimsy, don't you think?

Lonny Magazine: October/November 2010
Lonny's first birthday issue is out, friends, and how perfect it is for a leisurely Sunday afternoon read. I've picked out some of my favourite stories, photographs and spreads from their Oct/Nov issue. My highlights included their well-edited gift guide, including a picks for us dudes (nice work, Lonny team!) and Ruthie Sommers work transforming her clients apartment into a chic bachelor pad allowed me to warm to olive green more than ever before. However, for me, the real star pages of the issue was the rooftop terrace of Celerie Kemble. Whilst her interior tastes aren't quite in line with my own, the way Celerie decorated her terrace over looking Central Park most definitely is - check out that view, yikes! What were your faves from the issue, guys?

{Colour Cocktail: Black and Yellow}
Happy Friday, Friends! I've totally been bitten by the Friday Feeling bug today and I'm ready to wind down for a couple of days, catch up with some books and enjoy a cocktail or two. This week I've gone for a more masculine cocktail, pairing up some handsome, dark and mysterious black hues with a sunshine yellow pop. These two maybe like chalk and cheese, but they mix to perfection. Use black as the main colourway, like below, and swirl in poppy, bright sparks of lemon yellow hues for a seriously sexy and ever-so-stylish look. Then, if you want to soften the scheme, add in a few feminine touches such as the Noir Console/Dressing Table from Heals or to make a bigger statement lavish your walls with a pretty flock wallpaper, as seen below. There's something about this combo, I just love it - perfectly bright for the summer and cozy and warm in the winter. Add two to the tab, please...!

{Bright Blooms #7}
Now I'm getting settled into the new place I've had time to do relax and try out some more arrangements. This week I've gone for a contrasting visual: vibrant yellow roses, softened with some white stems, held proudly upright by a tall and sleek black gloss vase. This really brings my living room to life!

{Colour Cocktail: Grey and Yellow}
I've felt quite inspired by masculine-meeting-feminine spaces this week; from the sophisticated and colourful designs of Nate Berkus, to the fun my style challenge ran by Ally. So, I decided to make this week's colour cocktail on a combo that worked perfectly in such spaces. I love both of these shades - on their own or as a combo, but the latter really helps to bring each partner alive. Don't you think the grey makes the yellow pop and the yellow makes the grey look deep, thoughtful and comforting? This is the kinda colour cocktail you'd expect to see in a high-end Manhattan hotel with a room over looking the park and the glistening lights and yellow cabs below acting as an extension of the scheme. I'm going to dream of this over the weekend...whatever you do, I hope you have a great time and see you next week. x

{What's Your Style in One Picture?}
I'm continually inspired by the work of designers and much of how I define my style changes over time, and with my mood, which is why I like the space I live in to have a different feel in each room. That said, one thing that flows consistently throughout is my love for colour, especially bright hues. That's why I knew straight away that the picture I would choose for Ally's From The Right Bank 'Your Style in One Picture' challenge would be this one. Geee, I don't half love those high ceilings, that eclectic looking bookcase, the brightest of bright yellow doors and the mix and match dining chairs. You can see lots of other stylish choices from all the bloggers who have taken part, here. It's great fun to see everyone's different styles and tastes.

{Yellow}
I know, I know I'm kinda infatuated (understatement of 2010?) with this cheery, poptastic hue, but I just can't get enough. So, more yellow yumminess it is! Every day I feel inspired by it's welcoming and strangely comforting nature and after many of you fell in love with these yellow doors, I thought you wouldn't mind a bit more sunshine. Plus, as it's only Tuesday we can all do with a bit of bright decor goodness, right? Let's dive on in: I have to find out where these yellow pom pom curtains (4) are from (anyone know?) and the piece of art (6) behind that eclectic, vintage-inspired vignette would be a hallway dream for me.

{Mix and Match Patterns}
I don't know about you guys, but I feel like starting the weekend a few hours early? Great, me too! Check out how clashing patterns can work wonders in these three very different spaces. The polka dots (1) marry perfectly with the grape-like pattern and because the second introduction of pattern is used in an understated and soft tone, which prevents it from being pattern overkill. Plus, the bright yellow chair serves as the statement of the room, centering the scheme so that the two patterns don't appear to be competing. Have you used clashing patterns in any of your schemes before? P.S. Don't double pendants always look totally sophisticated? Love them.

{Bedroom Bliss}
I would happily set up camp in either of these two bedrooms. Is it just me or are yellow and black a total match made in heaven?!
I like how the heavy, panelled walls are softened with the bright pop of yellow in the softly upholstered headboard. I rather like the idea of having such a minimalist bedroom. Not in the traditional sense (white walls, white linens, white just about everything). No, I mean minimalist in the sense of 'scaled-back'. Using a tam tam stool as a nightstand and a cosy, but has-seen-better-days rug makes the room feel lived-in and relaxed, instead of feeling fixed or so beautiful I would be scared to sleep in it! What I suppose I am trying to say is: I like the fact it's a little rough around the edges.
I'd like to think I would be brave enough to paint a bedroom grey, but I'm not quite there yet. Still, I posted this grey and yellow combo because I instantly fell in love with the headboard. (I've got a bit of a thing for headboards at the moment as I'm looking for a new one!) I never knew navy, yellow and purple could look so scrumptious together. But my goodness, don't they look good? Again, there's nothing too OTT or fancy about this scheme: it's comfortable, welcoming and oozes sophisticated style. I'd be very happy with this bedroom.

I teamed simple white and yellow blooms for my flower arrangement this week. They seem to look best in the early evening sun...

{Colour Inspiration: Yellow}
Oh my goodness, this colour has a serious hold over me. It's everywhere I look. Plus, the more I see it, the more I enjoy it. As soon as I buy my own place I'm painting a pair of doors bright yellow (1) and then I think I'll buy some block shelves and paper the insides with different yellow patterned wallpapers (11). Which one of these ways with yellow is your favourite?
