Bright Lights

Inspired by the green floor lamp in yesterday's home tour, I came to think about adding colour into a home through lighting.Whether it's part of a well-edited colour scheme or used as a surprise pop in a Scandinavian-style apartment, you can't beat the hit brought by a colourful statement lamp. Think about mix and matching different styles on either side of your bed, throw an unexpected colourway into your formal dining room to give it a dash of playfulness, or even use one to liven up a dark hallway. Introducing a flocked or metallic finish to your colourful new addition will give it that extra opportunity to shine.

{Relaxed Style}

When it comes to the decor of my living space I like to make sure there is a small corner of my apartment dedicated to creating a laid back, relaxed ambience - nothing too bright, but certainly not beige either. I think of it as an area to indulge in chic grey hues and warm, earthy tones mixed in with glass pendants and metal lamps. That's what I love about colour, you can create uplifting and vibrant spaces using poppy brights, and in the same corner of that room a simple white desk, metal lamp and sage chevron rug can create a space to gather thoughts and clear your mind. Whenever I need inspiration for these spaces I check out both the myles henry blog and these roving eyes - both a dead cert for inspiring in this area of decor. Here's what has my decor taste buds all a riot...

{Chandeliers}

Sometimes I think we all long for that extra dash of elegance in our lives, and the faithful chandelier is pretty much elegance in an instant. What strikes me about this collection of images, though, is the variety of schemes in which are glamorous friends are used. From farmhouse-chic (1) dining rooms to modern-meets-grandeur kitchens (6). Weirdly, the chandelier seems to work its sparkling magic everytime.

{Pendant Pairs}

I was inspired to write this post after the lovely Jane from the girl in the brick house commented on my post about pattern last week. It led me to think about whether pendants should be grouped in threes, rather than twos. I know, I know, really there shouldn't be too many rules when it comes to decorating, otherwise it would be boring. But, let's face it, things often do look better in threes. That said, check out these super sexy spaces, all featuring wonderful pairs of pendants. P.S. I don't think I'll ever tire of the Knappa pendant.

{Decor SOS: I Need Your Help}

So, I've totally fallen for this Bell Jar table lamp from West Elm. All good so far. Until I realise West Elm don't ship to the UK. Gutted! This lamp would be perfect for my nightstand for a soft, comforting light. I'm not giving up though. I wondered if any of you knew of a lamp that looks like this from another store (that's in the UK or ships here)? I've been searching but as yet I've had no luck so I'd really appreciate your help.

{Samantha Pynn Interiors}

Sigh. Some people are just too cool. Not only does Samantha Pynn have stunning taste in design, she's also the host and principal designer of Pure Design on HGTV. If that wasn't enough to keep her busy, Sam's also the Contributing Design Editor for Style At Home magazine. Go her! Anyhow, her new website launched this week and I found endless inspiration from her work. I especially love the play on scale in many of her schemes: the gold pendant shade (1), symmetrical photography wall (3) and oversized vases in the dining room (8) being a few favourites. Which ones call out to you?

{Breathtaking Pendant Shade}

I spent some time this afternoon browsing my very good friend Leslie Carothers' photo album from High Point Furniture Market. As soon as I saw this pendant shade I was amazed at it's beauty. It's too girly for me, but I still think it looks great!

{Sophisticated Los Angeles Interior}

If I was in LA, this is where I would hang out. Cool and sophisticated, yet warm and welcoming. I love the industrial feel of the space. As for the statement lighting, wow, just wow! Who's coming for cocktails?!

{Colour Inspiration: Gold}

Often associated only with the holiday season, gold is actually a fantastic colour for adding opulence to interior spaces at anytime of the year. The vintage mirror (1) shows how to add drama to a hallway or bedroom (plus it's got that rustic French look to it that I simply adore). Over sized mirrors lent against a wall instead of mounted on it, always give an air of style and glamour; gold effortlessly adds to this look.

I'm loving how the gold pendant light (2) mirrors the bulbous wine glasses on the table. All it needs now is a good bottle of red to complete the look...! If you're looking to add a dose of instant luxury then add a few pieces of gold-coloured glassware (4) to your tabletop and your next dinner party will be fit for a king!

{Simon Sheeran: Colourful creations}

Simon Sheeran doesn't just make things, he makes lovely colourful things. Things that will make your home not only look but feel like a happy place; he's created additions for your home that to make living there a tactile experience. He's mixed colour, texture and a spoonful of fun to make some great homewares. My favourites are: the Dot and Doris wall decorations (1), which make me want to run my hand down the Smartie-like spheres; and the 100% recyclable (extra points for being green) Paper ball canopys (2), which are made through a handmade process of fixing together tightly spun paper balls.
